Description
Purpose: Audio-Digest Foundation CME/CE activities are designed to provide its learners - physicians and other healthcare professionals - with continuing education that will help identify clinical problems in their practice settings, provide content to help to solve those problems, and increase their application of knowledge to practice.

Systemic and autoimmune disorders
Educational Objectives
The goal of this program is to improve the diagnosis and treatment of retinal disorders and visual complications of giant cell arteritis. After hearing and assimilating this program, the clinician will be better able to:
1. Summarize the data supporting the current treatment options for dry age-related macular degeneration and evaluate progress in the development of new therapies.
2. Assess the strength of the data from the various clinical trials evaluating vascular endothelial growth factor inhibitors for the treatment of diabetic macular edema.
3. Elaborate on the efficacy and side effects of extended-release devices to deliver corticosteroids for the treatment of diabetic retinopathy.
4. Diagnose giant cell arteritis on the basis of signs and symptoms, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, levels of C-reactive protein, and biopsy of the temporal artery.
5. Choose appropriate regimens of prednisone to treat giant cell arteritis.
