Rabbi And The Sticky End
Rabbi Hawkins is back! This time he's investigating the bizarre killing of a Sergeant, who had been done in by Gun Tape, the army version of duct tape.
Rabbi has accepted the fact that finishing his university degree is now on the back burner. He's a soldier now and is very surprised to find that he likes the job. Mind you, it's not all goofing off, playing the universal army game of 'hurry up and wait', as he soon finds out. This time, he's halfway through his basic training at the MacCammons' Depot in Camp Gagetown, New Brunswick before the regular routine is disrupted. Back with him are his buddies, Jeff, Bobby, Johnny and Beau. Of course, the more unpleasant aspects of army life, the Corporals, Sergeants and that other annoyance in Rabbi 's life, Military police Staff Sergeant Pritchard-Ingalls, are all contriving to keep him from poking his nose in where it doesn't belong.
What does Rabbi think of all this? I'll let him tell you himself --
"He's dead!"
"There's no need to shout," said Sergeant Boxley.
Which just goes to show you how little he knew of the situation.
Yeah there was. I had just found Sergeant Randall, head completely covered in gun tape. No need to shout?
No eyes, no mouth, no face, and no hair. An olive drab balloon where his head should have been.
Death by gun tape-- Army duct tape. And guess who owned the murder weapon?
Who else, but me, Rabbi Hawkins. What else? Only clown make-up, a body in the showers, a beautiful girl, and me trapped in a bunker with a psychopath armed with grenades, a sub machine gun and bad temper. It's me against this khaki-clad nightmare and all I've got is a knife.
Remember that old saying, Never bring a knife to a gunfight?
It was all I had!
