This book is absolute gold, Wells made sure that there was nothing lacking in this book. From understanding what home schooling is all about and what it takes to school your child at home to how you make home schooling fun. It's hard to imagine any parent unable to find any valuable ideas or tips in this book.

Wells also incorporated a well detailed curriculum that any parent can easily adopt while home schooling their kids. All through the various stages of development for kids.

The author did well to have sections for not just the child but also a helpful section for the parent as well. You also get to know the benefits you gain for home schooling your child and also what the benefits for the child too.

Of course, home schooling your child is not all a bed of roses. The author didn't shy away from giving you any draw backs you might encounter, either for yourself as the parent or for the child involved. The author lets you see both sides of the coin so you as the parent will be better prepared for any difficulties you might face along the way.

The book is a complete resource; you will find all you need to know about home schooling your child. If you are not into reading, you might find the book a little intimidating. My advice, take your time if you're just getting into home schooling, don't rush. But if you already know a thing or two, then go directly to the section that you need.

I highly recommend this book for all parents, even if you are not home schooling your kids, you would still learn a few things that can help you when your kids are at home after school hours or during the holiday seasons.

Read as part of some research to decide if I want to homeschool and I found this book to have a ton of information in that respect. I don't know if it should be called a "guide" as it seemed more fact filled than instruction filled.

The book itself was written well, with few grammatical or punctuation errors. It was not, however, what I was looking for. I am only speculating, because there is no biography info on the author, but I don't believe Wells Emery is or has been a Homeschool parent. (This same author also has parent guide books for Autism, ADHD and Dyslexia, so perhaps s/he is a special education specialist.)

The book was written like a research paper, exploring some potential pros and cons, and providing a fairly thorough (if a bit seemingly biased) framework of what Homeschool is, and some statistics. The problem with the statistics, though, is that they are all paraphrased, and no sources are cited within the book. There is little concrete advice for where to find resources or co-ops, or other homeschool families. There is an emphasis on making homeschool look like traditional school, only a more flexible version.

The most useful portion of the book is a comprehensive guide of what the educational goals should be by grade level, and only because it is concise and listed all together. Other than that, I can't really even recommend this book and certainly not to a beginner Homeschool family.

I have always wanted to homeschool my kids. However, before taking the plunge I wanted to do some research on what to expect. I wasn't looking for a heavy textbook, just something to get me mentally prepared. It is so easy to say you "want" to homeschool, but it is more difficult to follow through and think about the implications. This book definitely opened my eyes to the different methods out there. I really liked the section on "things to consider before homeschooling your child". I still haven't decided whether or not I will be homeschooling my kids, but I least I have honed in on what the key decision points are.

I would recommend this book to parents still deciding whether or not to homeschool.

It didn't seem to be biased. Gave straight forward information. I may skim thought it a few more times for reference.

I am considering homeschooling my two children and this guide was super helpful in helping me make make a decision. I still haven't completely made up my mind yet, but this guide explained the pros, cons, and all the information I was looking for. Really appreciated and I recommend this book to any parent considering homeschooling!

Great basic info if you are considering homeschooling. Good list of pros and cons. Good list of expected skills for each grade level.

I hate to write a bad review for a book like this, but the writing style was so poor as to make the content almost inaccessible. I couldn't pay attention to the subject matter because I was so distracted by the grammatical and stylistic errors in nearly every sentence. It must not have been edited at all.
