Description
Irish Ancestors is a series of Books which takes Irish family names and tells the stories of some of their most notable members.
This Book tells the Story of one Irish man, Diarmuid Macmurrough, a King of Leinster in the mid to late 12th century. A man used to the rough politics and internecine warfare of the Irish clans, a warrior, a leader of men and a lover of women. He lost his kingdom to his arch enemy and in desperation sought help from the Normans and their war machine of knights and foot soldiers based in Britain and France. The Normans brought Diarmuid success and restored him to his kingdom but at a price both for him and ultimately for Ireland. When you sup with the Devil best use a long spoon.
Macmurrough evolved into the family name Murphy and that is why we call Diarmuid, the best known of the Macmurroughs, the father of the Murphys.
