Description
The Rev. Connell J. Maguire, Father Joe to his many friends and fans, was born in Glenties, County Donegal, Ireland; emigrated with his family to Philadelphia when he was 11 years old, attended LaSalle University, and hoped to become a playwright until he felt himself being guided toward the priesthood. After a 32-year career as a chaplain in the Navy, which took him to Vietnam and Sasebo, Japan, among many other places, he retired in Florida and joined a writing group. A regular writer of letters to the editor of the New York Times and one-act plays, he was urged by the members of the group to pen short pieces, often with a poignant moral. "Foibles of Father Joe" is his second of three books, a little more serious than the first, and way less serious than the third, "Reflections of Father Joe." Connell J. Maguire passed away on April 12, 2012, at the age of 94.
