Description
A runaway best seller in 1910, forgotten by 1930, Florence L. Barclay's novel THE ROSARY was re-discovered by movie star Nelson Eddy in 1948 as a possible film vehicle for himself and screen singing (and life) partner, Jeanette MacDonald. A new introduction by Sharon Rich provides a biographical chapter about Florence L. Barclay and explains the MacDonald/Eddy attempt to make a film version in 1948. Included are their letters dated from 1948, discussing the ironic similarities of their lives at that time to the main characters of the book. "The story is so like the course of our own lives it was amazing." wrote Jeanette MacDonald to Nelson Eddy in a 1948 letter. "It is such a beautiful story." Included also is the original sheet music upon which the book was based, poem, biographical information and photos of MacDonald and Eddy at that time, plus rare photos of both Barclay and her family.
