Description

The epic survival tale begins in Book I of Adam's Chronicles with our world facing pending impact by a gigantic meteor. Adam Boatwright copes with his greatest challenge: preparing for the collision and dealing with the aftermath of the massive calamity.

When all hope of saving the planet is lost, the rescuers hole up in a deep cavern to wait out the catastrophe. Their story deals with worthiness of the human race, family planning, reproductive politics, planned mutations, cloning, animal rights, immortality, sexual preferences, and what life to restore. They encounter betrayal, career crises, shattered dreams, sacrifice, and renewal.

This action adventure thriller includes a second group of people who ride out the meteor's devastation. They save only themselves by occupying an Antarctic research station where they would comfortably wait for the planet to calm down. Their tale involves ambition, jealousy, and dominance. The meteor's non-survivors also have a story involving political intrigue, deception, societal disintegration, coping with loss, bravery, cannibalism, religious zealotry, and hope.

Although science is a major theme, this book is non-technical and everything is discussed in ordinary language. The tale weaves together controlled evolution, intelligence enhancements, non-cryogenic embryo storage, expanded animal-human communications, and prolonged cessation of the aging process.

The saga is told as if it were real, with minimal need for reader's to suspend their disbelief as the incredible story unfolds. Science has just a backdrop role in this epic survival adventure. Always, the main focus is on human actions and relationships. The plot combines science with conjecture, mystery, thrills, and intrigue. It is both love story and serious medical thriller that reads like a romantic science fiction tale. Except for a couple of very plausible twists, it flows like a true first-person biography.

The heroic scientist's love for his violinist wife is the driving force behind their story. Vera compensates for Adam's impulsiveness and helps him through tight spots with her deft logical reasoning. Some would even say their story is a romantic fantasy adventure -- with minimal magic and an emphasis on science.

Adam confronts the possibility that his aging process has stopped, perhaps temporarily. He seems bigger than life, like an actual person who magically steps out of a movie screen amidst an action adventure thriller. He is on his way to becoming a superhero, though not in a physical sense. The medical doctor and geneticist is on a long mission to resurrect the planet's ecosystem, a gargantuan task best led by a person who does not age. And like popular superheroes, Adam Boatwright has enemies. He must keep his true age a secret, lest others learn how to stop aging. Adam will someday masquerade as a normal aging person and plans to fake his death when necessary. He must detract would-be traffickers in immortality, a universal attractor that in wrong hands could bring destruction of life as we know it.
