Before his death, Will's father had been left a property in California. Will and his friends set off to California to discover life among the miners in the Gold Rush. Along the way, Will also finds a beautiful young woman.
Deep Down: A Tale of the Cornish Mines (1868)
An exciting story involving love, life, laughter and smuggling among the inhabitants of the area surrounding the copper mines of St. Just, Cornwall in Britain, set in the mid 19th century.
About The Author
Edinburgh, Scotland-born author Robert Michael Ballantyne (1825 -1894) wrote novels for young boys, publishing more than 100 books. At age 16, Ballantyne went to Canada where he spent five years working for the Hudson's Bay Company. He traded with Native Americans for furs, making his jouney by canoe and sleigh, which gave him the basis for his novel Snowflakes and Sunbeams (1856). Ballantyne returned to Scotland in 1847 and learned that his father had died. He published his first book the following year, Hudson's Bay: or, Life in the Wilds of North America.
