Description
In the year 2147, humankind has begun to exceed the critical planetary ecological tipping-point in many frightening ways. Global population exceeds nine billion souls. Unspoiled areas on every continent are shrunken, their wildlife depleted. Poverty is rife in every nation. Petroleum reserves worldwide are nearly exhausted. Sources of water for domestic and agricultural use are severely overtaxed. Air quality has never been so compromised. Still, there is hope. Technology has led to stunning advances, and man's ventures into space have proceeded spectacularly. A new faith -- that of the Solae -- has arisen from the urban slums of South America, promising a new and vital view on human interactions. Perhaps humanity's future is not so grim after all.
On 15 September, in the year Twenty-One Forty-Seven, all that changes.
