Description
This case involves a young girl suffering from chronic depression and her peculiar reaction to it. L.T. Meade displays a wonderful ability to make you feel for the characters, even in a short story. I dare you to NOT want to rush to the nurse's defense when she is accused of theft, even though all the evidence points to her.
This is the 12th and last story of the first series of "Stories from the Diary of a Doctor" published in the 1890s. It was so popular, that the famous Strand Magazine, requested another series by the author and the doctor starting again with issue No. 49.
Dr. Clifford Halifax's real name was Dr. Edgar Beaumont. These are supposed to be true stories from his own experiences.
Included are several illustrations previously published in the same magazine that originally published the stories.
