Marianna in Love and War
Marianna von Gottfried, the daughter of a wealthy German businessman, embarks upon an ill-advised relationship with Dolf Muller, son of a Jewish family which had been acting in concert with the Nazis on the eve of World War II. In being forced to end this relationship for the safety of her family and the good of the Party, Marianna leads a tormented life.
Told through a series of memories and flashbacks during which we see the many errors of judgement Marianna makes, Marianna in Love and War is the story of one young woman's search to find happiness in a world of turmoil and war.
Marianna's life is fraught with drama, each new day seems to bring her a new and personal battle to fight. Falling in love with a Jew and giving birth to an illegitimate child could have ruined her but she struggles against all opposition. She has to sacrifice her entire existence but Marianna's story is not one of sadness but of perseverence and hope.
