ARC Comments:
"I'll never watch the Rose Parade again without thinking of this novel. Rich characters, relentless plot... Pete Palamountain at his best."
"First-rate thriller. Couldn't stop reading. And what a surprise ending... "
"... Intricate... well-constructed... well written."
Seven jihadists cross the U.S. southern border through the rocky canyons of the Whisper Trail (La Rumorosa) above the Mexican Baja town of Tecate. Their crossing is violent and bloody, and it soon becomes clear that their long-range plans are even more violent and bloody.
They head for Pasadena, California, where they set their sights on the Tournament of Roses held every New Year's Day. The Rose Parade and the Rose Bowl football game are perfect targets to inflict maximum injury and death on young Americans.
The terrorists pose as simple maintenance workers and manage to insert themselves into Tournament House, formerly the William Wrigley Mansion, which is now functioning as festival headquarters.
But Homeland's Parade Protection Team, led by Swing Lahood, a former army intelligence officer, and Noor Samara, a fiercely anti-jihadist Muslim FBI agent, sense that all is not well. And with help from other team members, they attempt to anticipate the terrorists' moves and launch counteroffensives.
Will they be able to think like the terrorists, meet force with force, and keep the parade and football game safe?
And will federal, state, and local authorities help or hinder the team's efforts to prevent blood from flowing on New Year's Day?
