Description

"The Tempest: A Translation" is a line-by-line translation of Shakespeare's text into modern day English.
By combining the original text with a modern-day translation, the reader is facilitated in following the plot and is better able not only to understand the subtle intricacies of the story itself but also to appreciate the play on words and imagery contained within Shakespeare's work. The intention is thus not to 'dumb down' Shakespeare but rather to open up and make his plays more accessible to a wider audience who may otherwise be reluctant to approach them.

The book can be used both as an aid to students studying Shakespeare's work and also by people who are simply keen to sample and explore the play.
Easy-to-use - simply swipe between pages to view either the original text or the translation.

First published in 1611, The Tempest is possibly most famous for being Shakespeare's last solo play. It tells the tale of the exiled Duke of Milan, Prospero, who finds his chance to exact his revenge on his treacherous brother and all those responsible for his banishment when the transgressors are shipwrecked on his island.

Even over 400 years after his death, Shakespeare's observation of everyday human life is still relevant and what makes him one of the greatest writers in history.
