Description
Everybody loves a good story but that doesn't mean every good story is true.
Once upon a time -- before the days of Heracles, more commonly known by the Roman name Hercules -- there was a mighty hero named Perseus who was the son of Zeus, the king of all the gods. The mighty Zeus had many children, but even among them Perseus was special and from birth showed his strength and courage, once strangling two huge snakes that slithered into his crib.
Or maybe that was Hercules?
At any rate, after many adventures in many lands, Perseus came at last to the kingdom of Aethiopia, where he rescued the beautiful princess Andromeda from a sea monster and so won her hand in marriage.
The end.
But long before he performed that celebrated deed, the handsome young demigod won fame far and wide for a near-impossible task he undertook at the behest of a treacherous king sent him on a suicidal quest to procure the head of a gorgon, one of three monstrous sisters who lived on an island at the edge of the world.
With the help of the warrior goddess Athena and her brother Hermes, who loaned the hero some of their magical weapons, Perseus killed Medusa, the only mortal Gorgon sister, whose gaze was said to turn human flesh to stone. Perseus eventually gave Medusa's severed head to Athena, who put it on her shield.
It's a good story. But it's a lie.
Kat Parrish takes on Greek mythology with this novella-length re-examination of the legend of Medusa and the curse that followed her down many generations. For fans of Alexandra Cox, J.A. Prieto, Anya Howard, and Kyla Stone.
