Description
Ellen Glasgow was a well-known Southern novelist of the early twentieth century, who also wrote a few short stories and a bit of non-fiction. She produced five best-sellers, and her novel In This Our Life won the Pulitzer Prize in 1942. It was quickly turned into a movie of the name by Warner Brothers, starring Bette David and Olivia deHavilland.
This collection of gothic tales of supernatural and psychological terror still remains good reading (although some of the characters embrace the unenlightened racial prejudices of the era) -- nearly a century after it was first published.
