Description
"Anthem" is a novel by the brilliant American writer Ayn Rand. Born and educated in Russia, Rand emigrated to the United States in 1926. Having anticipated the dangers of communism, Rand developed a philosophical system she called objectivism. According to her system, as opposed to communist collectivism, human individuality, freedom, and talent are proclaimed the biggest good. In "Anthem," Rand describes a dystopian society where the concept of individuality is eliminated. The novel tells about the young man known as Equality 7-2521, who rebels by doing secret scientific research, which the government forbade. When his activity is discovered, he flees into the wilderness with the girl he loves. Together they plan to establish a new society based on rediscovered individualism.
