'Hocken and Hunken' is an adventure novel penned by Arthur Quiller-Couch. The story begins with a conversation between Captain Caius Hocken and his mate Mr Tregaskis. Captain Hocken expresses that he has never liked the life of a sailor, despite spending many years with the ship as his wife and children. Mr Tregaskis agrees that the life of a sailor is not liked by many, but points out that there are still compensations. He also muses that perhaps people who live on land don't have much more control over their lives than sailors do.
