Description
It was late May 2020, and as cities burned from coast to coast, I was horrorstruck by the mayhem unfurling in the streets of America. Even worse, following the tragic murder of George Floyd, many of my youngest friends seemed to champion the civil unrest, believing riots to be the answer. I tried to be nice, but the more I reasoned with them over social media, the angrier they became - one friend even accusing me of justifying racism. Promising to respond via direct message, but instead writing a short book, I have finally responded, and my message is crystal clear: you can support the premise that black lives matter without supporting Black Lives Matter. A radical concept to many, I operate under the belief that there are no easy answers to the big questions in life, especially those related to the subject of racial identity and social justice.
