Description
A Finnish cable worker digging a trench in Rovaniemi, Finland, struck something unusual beneath the soil -- a sealed pottery container, its craftsmanship foreign to the local culture. Despite its apparent age, the object's design was unfamiliar.
Archaeologist Mattias Pitkänen was called in to examine the find. Gingerly breaking the seal, he discovered a scroll of parchment, written in Chinese. Unable to decipher the text, he reached out to Dr. Yue Chang, a Chinese history professor at Beijing University. After careful analysis, Dr. Chang identified the artifact as a time capsule from the early 14th century, during the Yuan Dynasty. Inside was the memoir of an escaped Mongolian soldier. This is his story.
