Description
This is a book of poetry about the Viet Nam War, my 'dark night of the soul' and our wonderful country, a Great Work in Progress.
I am a vet and like so many of us, I am still troubled by what happened to us during and after the Viet Nam war, the defining event of my generation.
I was a Huey-Cobra helicopter gunship pilot over there in '68 & '69.
When I started flying back to Viet Nam in 1995 the nightmares came back with a vengeance.
My psychiatrist got me writing poetry to try to get some of the pain outside of me and shared, so I could more easily get on with the healing process.
This writing is a part of that process.
When I'm not flying in Iraq, I live in Nevada City, California. It is a very liberal 'arts, crafts and books' community. There are lots of conservative farmers, old hippies, peace protesters, new age types plus a large number of more modern "punks" with spiky hair and oodles of body piercing. Wonderfully diverse, it is a great place to live.
Though I hate the war, I work in Iraq, flying spy planes that protect the Iraqi people and our soldiers.
