Description
Some say there's a thick line between nakedness and indecency, some say there's no difference, and still others contend that in this and all things, there's
a 5% margin of error. The ten of us, fictioners and nonfictioners, dress as variously as any ten you'll meet, but when we write, we're 95% naked.
95 Percent Naked: The Origins
The writers of the 10 stories included in 95% Naked came together as a result of participating in one or more of Dan Coshnear's writing workshops. Some of these pieces are memoir, some fiction, some hybrids. Some might make you laugh, others cry, and still others, remember lost pieces of your own past.
The title preceded the contents. We all agreed that a themed anthology would be more enjoyable to read than a hodge¬podge of stories and personal essays. However, agreeing on a theme took some time. We must have generated more than a hundred proposals, and some were truly awful.
Harry finally proposed 95% Naked. He lobbied hard for it. No one saw any money change hands, but the delegates gradually fell in line. It proved to be sufficiently ambiguous and excitingly pro¬vocative. When you consider the first and second runner-ups, 50% Naked, and 25% Naked, it's easy to see why 95% Naked won.
We decided to create a book based on our efforts as dedicated writers. Many of these authors appear in print here for the first time. We initially published the 132-page soft cover edition available on Create Space, the print-on-demand unit of Amazon.

Beads of sweat formed on my forehead as tangible evidence of the fear still present in me. And yet I stood in awe. Who knew that people could talk to bees and expect to be heard?

People like individuality, someone who dares, who takes risks. A bohemian. You'd want to be in Betty's circle. Harry and I huddle beside Betty's bed, whispering. "I think we should expand the dining-room," he says, eyes smiling.
BETTY, by Linda Loveland Reid

MAKE ME A MATCH, by Jennie Orvino
The nurse slipped latex gloves onto the doctor's waiting hands. He said, "Men need to know that women dread coming here. Some feel profoundly embarrassed. Some feel violated."
THE PATIENT, by Teresa Ruden
Combining reading and writing fiction with mental health is not a new idea, but it had never been tried in this house. Here the emphasis has always been on addiction; as if drug abuse were the sole cause of mental illness and without addressing the one first, it would be pointless to address the other.
