Winifred Haymes, an introverted academic, has been railroaded into taking her vacation at the time portal located at Stonehenge, the latest in vacation destinations. She decides to make the most of it by going to a time around the end of the Roman occupation of England to do a little research when she gets swept up in a rescue mission for a lost researcher in the year 54 A. D. It's only after she gets there that she begins to pay attention to the nagging little voice telling her she's been set up, a belief that is confirmed once she finds her quarry and tries to get back to her own time. She discovers that she has become involved in a criminal intrigue and until she can put things to rights, home will never be the same again.
