Description

What do you do when you've just been demobbed following the end of the Second World War and your future looks even more unattractive than the life you've left behind?
Colin Arnfield and Ray Watson, both still young men, return to their depressing north west home town of Milltown with nothing more to look forward to but a return to the dead-end factory jobs they left behind when they were called to arms. They now have the local fish and chip shops to enjoy once again of course - until Ray gets them banned from the town's only surviving chip shop, that is - and the pleasure of the company of the local girls of course, but neither of these delights are anything like enough for two young men who have seen a bit of the world and had their horizons broadened. Both men are highly dissatisfied with their lot, especially Ray, the more militant of the two. But what, if anything, can they do to improve it? The ideal would be a business of their own - instead of working in a factory and feathering someone else's nest - and they have ideas for one, but unfortunately not the means of financing it. Their future seems to be as bleak as their past until fate in the shape of George Formby with his famous banjo/ukulele steps in...
Good Old George is a 20,000 word novella which will please fans of uplifting stories and George Formby alike.
