While riding one day in the forest
I heard an interesting sound.
Turning my horse to the left,
Toward the commotion we did bound.
An unbelievable animal
Had stepped onto the trail,
With a sharp and shiny horn
And a ropy lion's tail!
My horse and the amazing creature
Rubbed noses, wiggled, and whinnied.
I grabbed the nearest tree branch
And up the tree I shimmied.
She snickered and he purred a reply;
A friendship was being born.
Watching from my perch above
I sized up the great unicorn.
Bravely, I hopped onto the path
Next to Lassie, my little pony.
The unicorn pawed the dirt
And I puffed up my chest like a phony.
"SHE'S MINE!" I shouted out loud
And grabbed the reins with great force.
Lassie and the unicorn snuggled
And I knew I was losing my horse.
The unicorn stepped between us
Knocking me clean off my feet.
"Let's ask her," he said with a snort
And I sensed my coming defeat.
My Lassie looked me over,
Then over her impressive new find.
Finally, she lowered her pretty head
And nuzzled my shoulder goodbye.
"How shall I ever get home?"
Scared and tired, I begged him to talk.
When I thought he would not answer,
He said as they left, "Can't you walk?"
