It was to be a small experiment in a tree-hidden pool on the outskirts of a rural village. Nothing too grand, easily monitored, easily controlled. They introduced the Genesis Strain into the water... to see what it did to the pond life.

The locals didn't worry at first, not with a few dead animals, and not really when the cow was killed. But when a young girl was eaten, it changed everything. The Genesis Strain, or the Gene Bug as they called it back in the lab, altered their genetic development and changed the species.

When it became clear it could contaminate other species and alter those, it became a national threat.
