Noted science fiction and technology theorist Alan Shapiro examines Star Trek in relation to the cyborg theory of Donna Haraway.

Mr. Spock of The Original Series is a classic cyborg figure, as is Seven of Nine of Voyager.

Shapiro also explains the history of cybernetics and Artificial Life through Star Trek. There is a lengthy discussion of Haraway's work as well as N. Katherine Hayles' "How We Became Posthuman."
