Description
Robert Richardson was a professor at Bethany College, co-editor for a time of the Millennial Harbinger, and a close friend and the biographer of Alexander Campbell. Probably no one (other than A. Campbell himself) had a greater first-hand knowledge of the reformation movement led by Alexander Campbell than did Robert Richardson.
This 88 page classic by Richardson is described by his biographers as "A model of brevity, comprehensiveness, and clarity... a work so fully expressive of all that the Reformers worked for that it deserves to be called the 'Disciple Manifesto.'"
About the book, Alexander Campbell wrote: "It is a concentrated view of the distinguishing traits and objects of the great work in which many of us have been engaged for many years. The author of this essay has himself been connected with it for almost a quarter of a century, and is well posted in its history from the beginning. This tract gives a well proportioned miniature view of it in a lucid and chaste style, and is worthy of himself and the cause. It ought to be circulated, not only among our brethren, but the religious and reflecting of all Protestant Christians. He is about having it stereotyped in Philadelphia, that it may be cheaply and extensively circulated through the country."
In an appendix to the book we have included excerpts from the Millennial Harbinger containing Richardson's own announcement of the book, as well as reactions to the book from both A. Campbell and W. K. Pendleton. A brief, but insightful, summary of the book by Richardson's biographers is also included.
