Description

1944 --
Germany is fast losing WW2... Desperate for victory at any cost, Adolf Hitler authorizes a top-secret project... The remains of a Schutzstaffel (SS) officer - allegedly killed in action - are placed inside a gleaming shell of black titanium... Equipped with a weapon of awesome destructive power, this Nazi cyborg is sent back out into the field... At first, the half-man / half-machine supersoldier known as Der Metalmann serves his Nazi masters well... But as 'he' remembers who he once was - and the treacherous way in which he was murdered - the Metal Man starts to rebel... And all hell breaks loose... 5 out of 5 stars My Two Cents Worth... By Grampy on July 25, 2017 Format: Kindle EditionVerified Purchase:
'I've read the other reviews posted for this story, and am thus compelled to put in my two cents worth. The Metal Man by Ben Stevens was, for me, a gripping tale I did not want to stop reading until I had reached the end. Yes, there were a couple unconventional uses of the language. No, it's not an entirely new idea; it's long been established that there ARE no new ideas, particularly in the world of fiction. But this story really grabbed me by the throat and would not let me go. (Yes, that's a thinly veiled reference to a couple scenes from the story.) 'There are some gut-wrenching descriptive sections that force the reader to confront the realities of man's inhumanity to man (now, THERE'S a novel concept!), but in today's world people can't afford to be "squeamish"about such things. I strongly urge readers to spend a buck and dig in to The Metal Man... especially readers who tend to avoid realism of the violent sort. I'm certainly not condoning bigotry, hatred or violence -quite the contrary - but burying one's head in the sand is short-sighted at best, and potentially quite hazardous to one's health. Much of what this tale depicts really happened, and people need to know it. 'A far wiser man than I once said that those who do not know history are doomed to repeat it (although not in those exact words). The Metal Man is NOT a History textbook, it is a fictional tale. However, as I said above, much of the horror described herein IS accurate. It portrays a segment of history that must never be repeated. Sadly, it seems we've not learned our lessons, because such things are still happening today around the world. Educate yourself a bit; read The Metal Man. Not only will you perhaps learn something of recent world history, you will also find yourself entertained by a fine, well-told fictional tale... '
