Description
Gus Gross, age 23, huge and mean-looking because of childhood facial scars, returns to Canada after five grueling years fighting in Afghanistan only to discover that his alcoholic mother has squandered his life savings during his absence. Hurt and confused, Gus decides to hitchhike through the USA and Canada to postpone having to decide what to do with his life.
Gus encounters just as much deadly violence in North America as he did in Afghanistan, and his attempts at new careers turn into violent failures. Can a young man forced to kill strangers in combat cope with the guilt and nightmares that war spawns? Or will Gus discover a way to escape from everything?
