Where Secrets Lie: The Return out NOW!
Kara Everitt is young, gorgeous, and has overcome great odds to become a successful detective working for Ayers Police Department; but she is about to face her greatest challenge yet. She plans to infiltrate the most impenetrable vampire clan in Ayers, VA. Her younger sister Alyssa has become infatuated with the dangerous family known as The Caswells, a family that Kara has suspected to be involved in a string of odd crimes over the years, including the murder of her parents. Kara refuses to let Alyssa fall to the same horrific fate.
When Alyssa invites Kara to a lavish party to be thrown in her honor at the Caswell mansion, Kara seizes the opportunity. She surprises the Caswells, and even herself, when she offers to serve the family as her sister does. The shock grows even more so when Michael Caswell, the famed head of the Caswell family, insists on making her his own private pet, so to speak. It does not take long for her to realize that her deepest fears were not unfounded, and the Caswells are indeed blood drinking monsters. She resents every day that she has to spend as a slave to Michael's every beckon call. She recoils at his cold, ruthless attitude toward human life. Yet, she pushes forward, believing that this is the only way that she can save her sister.
As the weeks and months pass by, Kara struggles with her duties as a detective, a sister, and as a friend. Something begins to change inside of her, and she realizes that there is much more to the vampiric Caswells than she had originally thought, particularly Michael. A bond forms between the two of them that defies all logic. Everything that Kara once knew about vampires, herself, and her sister, seems to dissolve away, leaving Kara vulnerable and confused. On top of it all, new dangers are lurking around every corner, and villains are coming forth and making themselves known from every angle, making Kara unsure of where exactly her allegiances lie. The only thing Kara still knows how to do is fight, and fight is what she will do to the very end, to defend herself, her sister, and the last shred of hope that she has left for humanity, even if the vessel for that hope is someone who cannot truly be called human.
