Description

Growing up in rural America during the 60's, 70's and 80's was a time without color television, party lines, (if there even was a phone) before computers, cell phones and IPADS. There were very few Wal-marts and the Sonic drive-in was considered a fast food establishment.
It was a time of station wagons and RV's. Taking your kids camping or on a road trip for family vacation. Kids played outside and rode their bicycles around the neighborhood..
It was The Time of the American Dream.
Families were relocating, moving from place to place, looking for work. Looking for a place to settle down and raise their families.
They were passing through small rural towns on their way to better opportunities. People moved into towns and moved out. New families would come into the community, staying just long enough to get to know a few of the neighbors, and then they were gone. It was a time of change.
They were generally disheveled in their appearance as is the usual with traveling families. Never quite enough time to unpack and get set up to receive company and never enough time for others to get to know them. They were just your normal American family passing through.

We were one of those travelling families, though I don't think the reasons were quite the same for us...
The Kids Next Door is the story of 8 siblings growing up in rural America in a not so functional environment. The Father is an abusive, alcoholic, Bi-Polar, Paranoid, schizophrenic. The Mother is in a sense held hostage by and a victim of the father . The Children were the keeper of all the secrets that happened within this house next door. For twenty five years the secrets remained hidden, the children became adults, the man who held them hostage for so long Died, the memories begin to return, and the reality of their lives unfolded.
