Description

"Crime is inseparable from perception," writes Reed Ueda in his introduction to Crime: A Batch from The Journal of Interdisciplinary History. It is impossible to study criminal acts without also considering the societal views and cultural mentalities of the world in which those crimes took place. The author-historians contributing to this collection lend their expert reflections on how crime has been defined, motivated, and controlled across the globe. Spanning centuries of human history, the articles in this Batch explore such topics as taking livestock to court during the Middle Ages, the rise and fall of witchcraft prosecutions in Europe, homicide in Los Angeles, the use of deadly force by police officers in Chicago, and juvenile resistance in Nazi Germany. Dig in.
