Description
Jack wasn't planning on saving the world. He wasn't even planning on saving himself.
After getting fired for telling off his nightmare boss, he spends a night drinking cheap wine and eating leftover beans that give him really weird dreams. Like, magical-giant-beanstalk weird.
When he wakes (or thinks he wakes) in Giantland -- a place with towering castles, talking hens, and man-eating ogres -- he figures he's either dreaming or lost his mind. But the bruises feel real enough. So does the pretty receptionist from his real-world office, Harriet, who's trapped here too and definitely not amused about being giant chow.
Together they dodge hungry giants, haggle with a talking hen who lays golden eggs, discover hidden magical talents, and try to make sense of a world where dreams have teeth and nothing is quite as it seems.
And when Jack realizes his growing feelings for Harriet are more than just dream logic, he'll have to decide if escaping back to the "real" world is even what he wants.
Jack and the Giants is a smart, funny, grown-up fairy tale packed with action, romance, banter, and a fresh twist on the classic legend. Perfect for fans of Christopher Moore, Terry Pratchett, and anyone who ever wondered what really happened when Jack climbed that beanstalk...
What readers are saying:
"A great story of a fairy tale within a fairy tale. I have loved to read since I learned how to in first grade. If you enjoyed your childhood fairy tales as I did, you should read this one! It's a good tale for adults, too. Good witch, bad king, magical stuff, romance and dreams. Throw in the hen that lays golden eggs, giants, and gods of the elements. It all makes for a great read." -- Amazon review
"An old fairy tale with a lot of twists! Two great writers together producing a vastly entertaining work with humor, a bit of insight to human and giant nature, and an old fairy tale redone with a twist. This is a work with no real sturm, drang, or agnst -- just a fun read for a rainy afternoon. I would recommend this book if you are looking for a fun read." -- Amazon review
"Another great read! J.R. Rain has never fails to keep you reading his books. This is another one. I really enjoyed this book! It will keep you reading and wanting more. I enjoyed it and you will as well." -- Amazon review
"Jack and the beanstalk with a modern Piers Anthony and J.R. Rain twist. Great for Piers Anthony and J.R. Rain fans, plus a great way to be introduced to the works of these great authors." -- Amazon review
"I have always loved Piers Anthony. I am also a fan is J.R. Rain. They have woven a story that is entertaining as well as thought-provoking. I expect nothing less from these incredible writers. I want more." -- Amazon review
"I love fairy tales and this retelling is delightful. Piers Anthony and J.R. Rain have taken the Jack and the Beanstalk tale and given it their own amusing, while thought-provoking, style. Mingling fairy tale and mythology with great effect while letting human characters muddle on to learn and grow in an atmosphere of humor makes this a fun read. I look forward to future adventures." -- Amazon review
"This is a lot of fun and very busy, by which I mean new characters being added frequently, plot twists, and interesting surprises. The talking hen is my favorite. The story moves at a fast pace. It relies on old, familiar fairy tales, but is diverted immediately into wild imagination." -- Amazon review
"Rain and Anthony have collaborated to deliver a new take on Jack and the Beanstalk. And what an entertaining story it is. You won't be disappointed!" -- Amazon review
