The stories center around the Tennessee River Valley, and the individuals from that area. The book includes many famous characters, such as Nathan Bedford Forest and William Tecumseh Sherman, as well as lesser known characters, such as Arthur Keller, Helen Keller's father, as well as many others. The book contains a Table of Contents and Index to make it an easy reference, as well as numerous photographs. The author, William Lindsey McDonald, is a regional genealogist that has written several historical books on northern Alabama, such as Lore of the River - Chief's of the Tennessee Valley, A Walk Through The Past - The History of Lauderdale County, Remembering Sweetwater, The History of the University of North Alabama, The History of Elize Coffee Memorial Hospital, as well as others. He was also a celebrated weekly columnist in the local newspaper.
