The usual goings-on were the norm for the sleepy little town of Tall Oaks. Nestled deep in the wooded terrain of the eastern portion of the great state of Texas, it's the kind of town one would imagine when thinking of a quiet, out of the way, forgotten in the past, type of rural community. It's one and only school, Independence ISD, consisting of an old rock building, proudly boasted the grand total of one hundred and sixty students.
This is the only town, and school, Aubrey Summer ever knew. She would be starting her senior year when the summer break ended. A typical teenager with two best friends, Kay and James, she had the normal hopes and dreams of any girl her age. A boyfriend, something she worried she would never have before she graduated, topped her list of must haves. When a new restaurant opened up in town, she had no doubt that a job there would set her up to find one.
After meeting the boy of her dreams, a series of unsettling occurrences threatened to disrupt her happiness. Then, just when her life seemed almost perfect, her world was turned upside down when she found out, all too personally, that not all horror stories were based on fiction. That in fact, some of them were based on true living beings inhabiting the very town she lived in.
