Description
"A Sooner Solicits the Nation" is a revised edition of "The Red Cross Rainmaker." The new book reflects additional files of text and images discovered by the author.
The book is edited by his son, Howard Bryan Bonham (Jr), as a first person narrative by Howard Bonham Sr. It highlights his adventures growing up in Indian Territory and climbing to Vice Chair of the American Red Cross, at the youngest age ever. In his career he reported on the spot consequences of tornadoes, earthquakes, floods, hurricanes and other disasters as a public information officer of the American Red Cross, the nations first responder to natural disasters. Later on, the organization moved him to Washington,D.C., where he directed its fundraising through collaboration with stars and celebrities of stage, screen, TV and radio. He also wrote speeches for three sitting U.S presidents and a governor, and was honored by philanthropic societies.
The hardships and heartbreaks of the Great Depression and the enormous sacrifices of World War II provide special insights into his great service to victims and the Red Cross. He was the voice of the American Red Cross, during times when American presidents made formidable financial demands on that organization.
He witnessed a great deal of pain and tragedy. In all likelihood, his immense wit and bonhomie enabled him to energize his skills and creative media skills. The book is a compelling yet entertaining story of a member of a life member of the Cherokee Nation who climbed to the pinnacle of his profession in America.
