What are the Hanging Gardens of Babylon?

The Hanging Gardens were one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and for good reason. Built by the Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar II for his homesick wife Amytis, they were renowed for their vast beauty- intended to replicate the mountainous splendor of the Median kingdom she was from.

There are no existing images or Babylonian accounts of the Hanging Gardens, so their depiction can vary wildly. That gives us the freedom to do whatever we'd like with the project, while still remaining true to their original design. What's important is that what we built be multi-tiered, elegantly marbled, and covered in lush greenery.

Is it difficult to build the Hanging Gardens of Babylon?

Absolutely not! The Hanging Gardens are an extremely modular project. That means they can be easily extended to include virtually endless additional tiers and levels. The overall design is one that's easy to expand and has the internal space to make a valuable fortress. This guide will cover the elements of design that give it that exotic Babylonian feel, and how to incorporate water and greenery to set it apart from all your other constructions. NOTE: This is not an official minecraft product!

What should you use to build the Hanging Gardens of Babylon?

The first step prior to building, of course, is gathering your material. The newest block type added to Minecraft is Quartz, which is an attractive, varied stone that can double as white marble. There's really no equivalent block unless you mod the game. If you don't know how to find Quartz, you need to go to the Nether. It's the white ore mixed in with the netherrack, and is fortunately quite easy to find large quantities of. Outside of Creative mode, you'll need quite a bit to finish this project, but the good news is that it's the only material you need a large quantity of.
