Description

Topical, dark and disturbing crime thriller featuring a decidedly different type of detective.

In his darkest and most complex case to date, DI Ted Darling has to confront demons from his own past when investigating the brutal murder of a young boy.

As more deaths follow, he realises he's up against powerful people who believe themselves to be above the law. It leaves him feeling out of his depth.

Just how high up in the Establishment does the corruption go? And how far will they go to keep the dark secrets?

What the readers say:

Here is crime fiction the way it should be. None of the old clichés or formulaic predictable stuff. I don't normally write "unputdownable" in my reviews but this time... I have to. I couldn't pause and sat up half the night twice to finish it. This is dark stuff where the reader starts to doubt everyone in the case apart from Ted himself. Characterisation superb, plot intricate and involving - the ending I wont say a word apart from - Read it yourself!

This series continues to surprise and please me, so much so that I have now downloaded numbers three and four. The main character, DI Darling, is a complex and interesting character, and his relationship with his team and his partner, Trev, rings very true. The writing style is smooth, the dialogue moves the story forward easily. This particular story is a tough one to read about - a pedophile ring with ties to men in high places. There are, necessarily, graphic language and images, but I felt that the author handled them well, just right to tell the story with no gratuitous details.

It was 11.30pm last night when I finally finished reading this intriguing book. This second D.I. Ted Darling's crime novel, I think, is even better than the first, which I loved. It is an horrendous crime that Ted and his team set out to investigate but so true, in the current climate, it's hard to believe it's work of fiction! The police procedures have obviously been meticulously researched and add to the realism. Poor Ted has to face his demons from the past which puts a strain on his relationship with his lovely partner Trev, On the plus side Ms Krier has introduced a new character, a stroke of genius, a woman Superintendent, nicknamed The Ice Queen! More of her in the next book please.
