1398. After decades of war, Scotland and England have finally found peace. Scotland, ruled for ten years by the Duke of Albany, the king's brother, is about to have a new ruler: David Stewart, heir to the crown. England, meanwhile, is also about to change rulers with Henry, Duke of Lancaster, overthrowing the weak Richard II to become King Henry IV.

The south of Scotland erupts in to civil war. The Earl of March renounces Scotland and heads to the court of the new King Henry. Archibald Douglas, son of the most powerful nobleman in Scotland, sees a chance for glory and invades March's lands. But he is not content; peace has gone on too long and he eyes new lands in England.

The peace is shattered, and David Stewart must not only fight off an English army, but also the plots and intrigues of Scotland's powerful and corrupt noblemen.

The actions of Stewart, Albany and Douglas have dire unforeseen consequences leading to murder, war and rebellion that will finally see the future of both nations settled at the bloody Battle of Shrewsbury.
