Description
These are the stories of the isolated few that have encountered the gargoyle of the Sonoran.
The Sonoran Desert is an extreme place. It covers large parts of the Southwestern United States and Northwestern Mexico. It is a serious and mysterious land fraught with beautiful vistas and potential danger. Temperatures are consistently over 45° (113° F); there are sudden violent monsoons and sandstorms (haboobs); spiders, scorpions, rattlesnakes, centipedes and Gila monsters. It is all part of the price you pay to enjoy the majesty of the territory.
But be warned... there is something else there.
Ruling over the land is something ancient and powerful; a secretive "thing" rarely seen that lives among the cacti, beneath the brutal rocks and above the sweeping dunes. A lumbering, tunneling, flying humanoid lizard otherwise referred to as the Sonoran Gargoyle.
The desert demon knows how to stay hidden... most of the time. Though the gargoyle is present in historical references of any number of Native American tribes in California and Arizona going back long before the Europeans arrived. And it is a reality that most of the desert expanse is as uninhabited today as it was back then -- a suitable residence for a centuries old species preferring to be left undiscovered. The gargoyle possesses a kinship with bats and easily navigates the tunnels of beneath the baked floor in the dusty solitude.
Those who know give it the respect it deserves; those who do not are fortunate to live to tell the tale.
