How would you define "worship?"
That's probably not as simple of a question to answer as we'd like to think. In all honesty it's probably one of those questions that if you were to ask ten different people, you'd possibly get ten different responses. I would dare say, however, that many people's minds would immediately go to music. For some "worship" may be singing old hymns out of hardback hymnals, while seated in padded pews with a piano and organ playing softly in the background. For someone else "worship" may be singing the latest contemporary worship song with a worship team playing at full volume, accompanied by lights and fog machines. Sadly, far too often worship is defined more by our personal musical preferences than anything spiritual or scriptural. One of the goals that I hope to achieve with this book is to show that worship is much, MUCH more than the songs we sing. I'll say it this way:
True worship isn't just singing about Jesus: it's about living a lifestyle that proves that we believe what we're singing about.
Music is a vital part of our lives. As a musician, I can attest to its importance in my life. In this book much time will be devoted to talking about the power of anointed worship music, and it's a power that cannot be over-emphasized. As followers of Jesus Christ, however, we must come to understand that worship isn't just a song, but it's a lifestyle. In John 4:24 Jesus said, "God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and truth." My goal with this book - and in my life - is to truly worship God. I pray that is your desire as well.
May we truly offer to our Father God "The Song of Surrender."
