Description
Presented is a collection of sixteen short stories of the Old West contributed by ten different authors. Henry Wallace Phillips brings a touch of humor to tales of searching for gold, dealing with a tenderfoot boss, help from an unexpected source, and cowboy romance. O. Henry follows in a more serious vein with a pair of stories about men not letting adversity stop them from accomplishing their task. Clarence Mulford's classic character Hopalong Cassidy participates in an elaborate practical joke on a windbag newcomer. George Pattullo and Izola Forester bring up the subject of romance which sometimes doesn't work out as expected. Charles Alden Seltzer tells what happened when a gunman hired to kill a man falls in love with the intended victim's daughter. Francis Lynde shows what it took for a new railroad superintendent to be successful. Roy Norton tells how a "war" over a disputed mining claim was settled. Frank Spearman returns the reader to the early days of western railroading in a trio of stories. Finally, Franklin Welles Calkins concludes the collection with a tale of the pony express.
