Description
On Valentine's Day 1989, Michael Eads was doing his usual workout. Sit ups, push-ups, then twenty minutes on the stationary bike. Suddenly, he felt a sharp pain in his lower abdomen. It was so excruciating that he curled up on his living room floor and waited for his wife to get home from work. The only thing he knew for sure was that his workout was over.
While in the hospital, he was poked and prodded. Blood samples were taken and Mr. Eads was informed by his doctor that his triglycerides were 7,900mg. The normal range is 150mg or less. He was suffering from acute pancreatitis. Unless the doctors can discover the cause and significantly reduce his triglycerides, Mr. Eads will die.
During his second night in the hospital he has an epiphany. Michael Eads confronts his own mortality and prepares for the worst. He can feel the cold stench of death near his hospital bed. Instead of succumbing to it, he accepts it. And even though he's only twenty-seven years old, he thanked God for his life.
The Night I Spoke to God is a true story of a near-death experience. It exposes the time before the light when only the cold and darkness are revealed. In that space of life and death and the unknown, Mr. Eads makes a simple prayer. "Dear Lord, give me the strength to fight this." As he slips away into unconsciousness he feels satisfied. He no longer has control over his life. He leaves the result to God.
