Description

In 1919 Dorothy Grace Ames, as the eldest of nine children works at the local shirt factory, helps her mother at home, and take simple pleasures in crocheting, reading and available local entertainments. She attends box socials, rides her bicycle, enjoys going to the movies, and dances. Although she is a proficient dancer, her enjoyment comes from the music.
At one such dance, she meets Martin, a suave sweet talking good time guy. Swept off her feet within days, six weeks later, she finds herself shamed, and pregnant. Months later while celebrating her twentieth birthday her grandmother gives her a family heirloom, a Celtic Knot necklace as a gift. Suddenly, she finds herself surrounded by unknown people, dressed in unbelievable clothes, using appliances and other items beyond her imagination.
Everyone else assumes she is Dorrie, her own pregnant, great-great-great-granddaughter, including the girl's boyfriend and the father of the baby. She faces many challenges, not the least of which is a determination to return to her life, the baby she left behind and her family.
Also included is the story of Carl, who plays a major factor in the lives of both girls.
