Long has the Destroyer, the ancient enemy of mankind, brooded upon his defeat at the hands of Vesarion of Westrin. Catastrophe falls upon them and Galenne is abducted. Berendore and the companions he meets along the way, are forced to travel ever northwards into uncharted regions in a perilous quest to save her from the sinister creature that holds her captive.

Their journey takes them ever closer to the Destroyer's lair, where they must avoid capture by his cruel servants in all their many guises.

Yet they soon discover that in lands under the sway of such evil power, nothing is ever quite what it seems.
