Description

The second book in the series visits the planet Xyra, a steamy planet completely blanketed by thick clouds. Unlike its sister planet Xioll, Xyra uses slaves to work the many plantations around the planet. Most of these slaves come from the third planet, Hoth, where the natives are giants of seven feet or more, with a blue skin, and are little more than animals, with a periodic Rutting Season. Because Hoth has a very high gravity, these Blue Giants show immense strength when subjected to Xyra's much weaker gravity.
The hero, Lear Topas, is the son of a planter who was murdered by the baddie, Sebastian Scarus, who then forged documents to claim the plantation as his own. Lear is forced to become a mysterious bandit and gather up evidence of Scarus' evil doings.
Scarus stole another plantation from Silvia Tyrrel's parents using similar means.
Lear and Silvia work together to bring about Sebastian's downfall. He really is a nasty piece of work, not only a Slave Trader, but also he breed slaves from women he kidnaps from Xioll and forces them to mate with a Blue Giant. But he can't sell the progeny until they are eighteen years of age, so he searches for a means to accelerate the slave children's' maturity. He has a concealed laboratory where he performs experiments on the slave children, injecting various chemicals into their blood to hasten maturity.
From his hideout deep in the mountains Lear and his men are aided by a Giant bird, known as a Ketterell that is quite happy to transport Lear and Silvia all over the place, although Silvia has reservations about that.
