When a string of burglaries threatens to close the newly opened Garland Creek Resort, Gina Ferari, the resort photographer, discovers her aunt is the prime suspect. After a chance meeting, Gina finds an ally, and possibly more, in Carter Hayes, a visiting lawyer. But the situation worsens when an employee disappears, Carter's future with his law firm becomes questionable, and Gina can't get beyond her childhood loss to learn to trust again. Can a touch of magic bring back both Christmas and Gina's happily ever after?


Author Interview:

Q: Where did you come up with the idea for this story?
A: I'm a member of a promotional group called The Butterscotch Martini Girls, and we decided to write a collection of Christmas stories. Walking Away From Christmas is my romantic, cozy mystery novella included in the Christmas in Garland Creek boxed set of holiday romances. As a group, we first discussed the setting. After some back and forth, we picked the White Mountains of Arizona. We made up a small town and included a square where they could hold holiday activities like train rides, ornament making, and singing Christmas carols around an enormous decorated tree. When it came time to write my story, I decided to add a resort. Making my amateur sleuth a photographer gave me the freedom to place her anywhere I wanted at any time.

Q: What is your favorite part of Walking Away With Christmas?
A: The Christmas magic. We included a matchmaking Husky who appears and disappears. On his tail, is a humorous, bumbling dog catcher. The duo is in every story in the boxed set. I introduced the dog early in this story for the couple to meet and then made him part of solving the mystery, which gave him a touching, yet vital role.
