Charleston, South Carolina, 1863. Confederate Captain Thomas Altman has been assigned to investigate the murder of a fellow soldier. Although the killing appears to be a robbery gone wrong, he soon learns there is more to this crime than meets the eye.

Meanwhile, Rhett Lacroix leads a double life in the city. He's a loan officer by day, Union spy by night. Employing whatever means necessary, he will stop at nothing to help his comrades defeat the Confederacy.
