Deena rolled her eyes at the thought of that boy. "You won't believe what foolishness Mr. Keshaun had the nerve to pull just now."

"What?"

"He showed up at my house, girl."

"When?"

"Just now, right before you called."

"Did you curse him out?"

"I should've."

"What'd you say?"

"I just told him - hold on, I have another call coming." Deena switched to the other line. Speak of the devil. It was Keshaun.

"Hey, baby." He sounded weary and blue.

"What is it?" Deena snapped.

"I just called to say I was sorry. I know I shouldn't come over there like that - without asking you first. I was wrong, and you was right."

Deena cracked a smile, but you couldn't hear it in her voice. "If you do it again, it's over, Keshaun. I don't play that. I don't need you hanging up in my face either." She knew this was bold, but he had a lot more to lose than she did.

"Alright, Dee. I'm sorry. Can I come by later?"

"I'm going out tonight," she said, purposely ambiguous.

There was a slight pause, and then he said, "Alright. Will you call me later?"

"I'll call you tomorrow," she said. "I gotta go. I'm on the other line."

"Alright," he said, more woeful than ever. "I'll talk to you later."

"Bye." She returned to Yesenia laughing. "Guess who that was... "

"Who, your hoodlum?"

"Yep. And he said he's vewy vewy sowwy for coming over here unannounced."
