Description
1887 Virginia, a young woman finds herself alone after her mother's passing with a promise to look after Mrs. French, a longtime family friend. It was natural for Meri to assume the responsibility of caring for Mother's friend now that she was well past the age for summer socials intended to connect young men and women.
When Mrs. French took the train to reconnect with her estranged family, Meri resurrects dreams from her youth. She wanted to see the Rocky Mountains once in her life. While talking to her dog, Bailey, a friend overhears her desire and is able to offer to send a letter to her sister in Elmer's Crossing, Colorado to provide housing for a visit to the majestic mountains.
Mrs. Misfield decides to accompany Meri to Colorado and the adventure begins. While in Colorado, Meri was given a taste of ranch living knowing that it would only be a short visit. Meri was so taken with Colorado she was ready to pack up her belongings and move, but she still had her commitment to Mrs. French. Her trip west fulfilled her greatest desire and she was content to resume her position in Clearwater, VA.
Meri did not expect to fall in love with the mountains, nor did she think she would meet a man that touched her heart. Accepting her present responsibilities, Meri thought of her trip west as a fulfillment of her childhood dream and nothing more.
Leaving her future in God's hands, Meri returns to Elmer's Crossing and finds that Davis, the young man on the ranch, has more than a passing interest in the young woman from Virginia. Before returning home, Meri promises to pray about her desire to live in the mountains. Just when she finds herself free to chart her own path, she returns to Colorado hoping to look at an abandoned house she explored on her first trip to Colorado.
To her dismay, she learns the house has an offer to purchase pending and Meri takes that as God's answer to her. "God said 'no," she told Davis, but learned that God did not say 'no,' he said, 'not now.'
